I’ve Become a Yankees Fan for April Fools
Many would say I have finally come to my senses. Others will call me a traitor. But lets be honest, can you really spend more than 20 years rooting for a pathetic team like the Red Sox? Ted Williams, Yaz, Jim Rice, Cy Young - these names all pale in comparison to great Yankees like Scott Brosius, Derek Jeter, Chien Ming Wang, Tino Martinez, Yogi Berra and Whitey Ford.
Yes, the Red Sox have won 2 of the past 4 World Series, but doesn’t that just kind of ruin it? I mean, who wants to root for a champion like that? Most Sox fans, like Patriots fans, now “expect” the team to win. You know, just becuase you have the best team doesn’t mean you always win! I want to avoid the disappointment of cheering for the best, and am now turning my sites to the Yankees.
And my first Yankee decree is this: I LOVE number 2. Who does number 2 work for? My beloved Yankees, that’s who. All you fancy fans with your “stats” and “numbers” showing Derek Jeter as a bad player, well, how about the 2001 World Series when he hit a walk off home run? And the way he sticks his ass out to try to get a call every time? Oh yeeeahhhhhhh, that is how you play baseball. Its not about what you do in the first inning, its about what you do in the last inning, or possibly in the 7th inning when you jump into the stands for dramatic effect.
Yes, I am a Yankees fan now. And its working already! Its April First and the Yankees are already a game ahead of the Red Sox in the loss column. See you in October suckers!
