Schilling Takes his Deal
I can’t say as though I am overly surprised, but it looks like Curt Schilling is going to take a least a partial home town discount and agree on an $8 million contract with enough incentives to potentially make it worth the full $13 million he wanted. And the best part? Some of those incentive clauses have to do with how much he weighs. Rumor has it that he is going to have about $2 million riding on whether or not he can show up to Spring Training in shape, and keep it that way through the season.
I’ve never heard of anything like this before, though I’m sure this can’t be the first time. Too bad the Cubs didn’t think of this when they were signing Aramis “Krispy Kreme” Ramirez.
But either way, this gives the Red Sox probably about 120 good innings, and of course, a proven veteran for the post season. Sounds like a good placeholder until we sign Johan Santana after next season!
