We Win!

Its official. The collapse didn’t happen. The Yankees may have been good enough to make the playoffs, but not good enough to beat the Red Sox. I cannot tell you how happy I am that the race is finished. I never expected it to happen this late in the season, but that doesn’t really matter anyway. The Sox are going to finish with between 95 and 97 games, and what more can you really ask for? They are a first place team, and are currently tied in having the best record in the league (and all of baseball for that matter, nobody in the NL has more than 90 wins).
We are not the Mets and the Yankees are not the Phillies so bring on the Angels!
Last night’s win also ensured the Red Sox of home field advantage, so game 1 at Fenway will be either next Wednesday or next Thursday, with game 2 definitely on Friday. The Sox are 2 games up on the Angels with 2 to play, and we own the tie breaker so that is that. Should the Indians win more games than the Red Sox this weekend, they would have home field advantage in the second round, but if we tie or have more wins, we get it. And of course, the World Series would be our advantage too since the AL won the All Star game.
The Sox probably won’t be playing too hard for the rest of the weekend though - I doubt they are going to take any real risks or not rest guys that need it just for 1 more potential home game 2 weeks from now. Its time to start thinking about the Angels (I am not sure what would happen if the Angels and Indians tie though, they were 5-5 against each other so there would need to be a second tie breaker to see who plays the wild card team) and how we are going to kick their asses once again!
The playoffs start today. Think Matt Clement will make a start now?
