Top 10 Tips for seeing a Sox game in Baltimore

Welcome to a new blogger on the site! MurphySox will be providing another perspective on the team we love and let ruin our saturdays.

Camden YardsI moved from Boston to the Baltimore area and although I already have plans to be at 25 games in Fenway this season I’m at all of the Baltimore games as well.

Here are some tips:

  1. Everything is cheap in Baltimore if you pay big bucks for anything you’re at the wrong place. This goes for beer, tickets, parking, food, lodging, you name it.
  2. If you end up with extra tickets go to the Scalp free zone and sell them but as I said everything’s cheap in Baltimore and expect to sell them for less than you paid. The scalpers try to buy them from you for nothing and sell them high avoid them!
  3. You can bring in food and most anything else in with you. The street people will sell food and drinks (cheap) and give a bag.
  4. Want to drink before the game? Of course you do. If it’s early take the water taxi to Fells Point..fun and lots of (again cheap) drinking spots. I like The Waterfront, Wharf Rat, Max’s, and John Steven’s (the owner is from Maine, but still doesn’t have Geary’s Pale Ale). I keep a sailboat at Fells Point it’s the one with the Sox flag flying high. (if you’re a single female with a sox hat on please join us for a drink on the boat) Federal Hill is another good spot to drink early. Go to the Cross St. Market you can even park there for free and drink heavy beer then walk off the calories about 5 extra blocks to the game.
  5. Just before the game have a couple drinks at Pickles or one of the other 5 places next to Pickles. They’re all outside across the street from the scalp free area. Lots of good guys around with Sox hats on. Wharf Rat is another good spot if you’re looking for tasty micro beer before the game. Not as good as Beer Works but you can get in without a long wait.
  6. If you buy tickets in advance try the box office after the season starts. The box office holds back all of the best seats to try and get season ticket holders to buy them. After they don’t buy them the tickets go up for sale online.
  7. Eating in the park, check out Boogs but expect to wait in a line. While you’re out there look on the ground for HR marks with names and dates. Rub the Ortiz mark for luck and say hi to Mo Vaughn’s.
  8. For the last couple of years, the O’s fans will give Manny a hard time during the entire game. If you don’t want to hear it (as much) don’t sit near left field
  9. Enjoy it and say thanks to Larry Lucchino for bringing this park into baseball. That’s right the same Larry Lucchino it was his idea to build the stadium.
  10. Once its closer to game time, don’t hesitate to look for seats in the Field Box area. They will go on sale but be patient. Also I would avoid the Club Box seats - Some of them face the wrong way and cost too much (for this park).

Stumble it!
