Kielty In - Pena Probably Out
Calling all MLB General Managers:
Have any extra baseballs lying around? Did you over-order sunflower seeds again this year? Or maybe you have a couple cases of Corona left over from Cinco de Mayo. Whatever it may be that is lying around your office that you want to unload - call Theo Epstein.
In case you didn’t hear, Wily Mo Pena cleared trade waivers today, which means that Theo will probably accept a package consisting of a case of baseballs, some sunflower seeds and a 12-pack in exchange for him. This comes just hours after Bobby Kielty was signed to a minor league deal that gives him a 10-day out clause if he doesn’t get called up.
It’s really not hard to read between the lines here. Pena is out, Kielty is in. Now the Sox just have to hope and pray they can get something decent in return for him (like 2 cases of Corona).
