Eric Gagne is Here

Its official, Eric Gagne is coming to Boston. Thank God! This is an amazingly great trade for the Red Sox. We are unloading our extra baggage (aside from Wily Mo) in sending Gabbard out while he still has some value as a major league pitcher along with David Murphy (no room for him with Drew/Coco/Ellsbury here for the foreseeable future) and another scrub prospect Engle Beltre.

With Pinero a failure, Romero gone, and Donnelly looking to be out for the season, this is just the guy the Sox need. Jermaine Dye would have been nice as well, but Gagne makes the best bullpen even better.

OK everyone, say a great big thank you to Curt Schilling for getting hurt this year. Without him hitting the DL, Kason Gabbard is still just an overachieving AAA pitcher that nobody cares about. Now that he is a proven major-league-ready pitcher, the Rangers were willing to take him for Gagne. Curt Schilling getting hurt is basically what convinced Tom Hicks that the Sox were putting the best deal on the table. They will probably have Murphy up in the bigs with legit playing time this year as well.

This is a win-win deal, but the biggest win of all for the Red Sox! Be very happy Boston - now that the Celtics, Pats and Red Sox are all potential champions again.

Stumble it!
