Name that Royal

Guess how many Royals make more than $1 million per year? Go ahead, take a guess.

The answer, surprisingly, is 12. They certainly know how to blow a lot of money! Take a look at their top 12 salaries - I’ve never even heard of half of these guys:

Mike Sweeney
is perpetually injured and currently on the DL. He has only 204 at-bats this year and hit below .250. Odalis Perez is 4-8 with a 5.68 ERA - which means they are paying about as much per win to him as the Yankees are to Roger Clemens. Gil Meche is probably the only one actually earning his salary - he is currently 6-6 and 14th in the AL among starters in ERA. Respectable at least. Jason LaRue, their .179 hitting backup catcher is making $5.4M? Nuff said. Reggie Sanders hasn’t played since May 2, and Octavio Dotel, in spite of being an effective closer, was still hurt and missed a good chunk of the season. Out of the rest of their million dollar men, David DeJesus is the only one actually contributing in a positive way to the team.

But either way, the Royals pretty much suck - They tried to go out and put together a real winning team this year, and have failed miserably. They are the best last place team in the American League, but that only means they are better than Tampa and Texas. Heck, they don’t even have a starter for the game tomorrow yet!

Even though the Sox are sending Gabbard, Tavarez and Wakefield to the mound against them, I still think we can easily take all 3 games. The bats only have to wake up a little against these batting practice pitchers they are throwing out there. I predicted a sweep earlier this month, and I am sticking by that, with or without JD Drew.

Stumble it!
