A $30 Million Man?

An article in the NY Post today suggested that A-Rod will likely opt out of his contract this off-season and suggested that the Scott Boras (everyone’s favorite agent) could land him $30 million per year contract. What is that about?
A-Rod is a great player. I know that. He’s undeniably an all-around asset and sure to be a Hall of Famer. But what team really wants him around?
I realize my perspective is different. I lived in New York for a year, and my hatred of the Yankees is truly awful. I try to hide it. You’ll never catch me yelling “Yankees Suck” or dissing Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams, or Mariano Rivera. But, I still hate the team. And A-Rod. He’s my poor punching bag. His contract, the fake perfection he tries to display to the world, his bush-league plays, his hanging with a stripper while the wife is home with their kid? Yeah, I think he deserves it.
My partner in crime and Red Sox watching mentioned early this spring that he wouldn’t mind if A-Rod came to Boston after this year. I would be horrified. Thankfully, I really can’t picture this happening—it’s too far a departure from the plan Theo has laid out for the organization. But the thought of it literally turns my stomach.
Is there really a team out there that wants him for $30 million? I’m fascinated by this thought. Please not in Boston.
On a related note, I am still snickering over the Yanks getting swept by the Rockies. Life is sweet.
