Schilling, Beckett and Lester
Guess which 2 of these guys will be pitching on the upcoming road trip? Hint - it ain’t going to be Schilling.
After his MRI “checked out OK,” he got a cortisone shot and the Red Sox announced today that he is headed to the DL. Surprise surprise - looks like my post yesterday - Schilling’s MRI or How I Blew My Arm Out Trying to Throw a No-Hitter - was spot on. Once you start talking cortisone shot, you’re toast, at least for a while.
With an off-day tomorrow, Beckett will take Schilling’s start on Sunday on his regular rest. Tavarez will most likely move up a day as well to pitch with regular rest on Monday in Seattle. But, the big question mark comes on Tuesday. At that point, it would be Daisuke’s turn in the rotation, but it would be with only 3 days rest. No way they push Daisuke up. They will probably have to call someone up from AAA and guess who that is most likely going to be?
Jon Lester!
And coincidentally, it is his day to pitch on Tuesday. Hmmmmm, I wonder if there are several members of the Lester family looking up plane tickets to Seattle on Orbitz right now?
