Jon Lester is scheduled to be in Fenway Park today to pitch a bullpen session under the watchful eye of Terry Francona, pitching coach John Farrel, and Theo himself. Clearly this is a good sign!

The hope is that they will come up with a plan and set a date for his return (Friday against the Giants perhaps?). Word is that it may involve being optioned to Pawtucket for a few more starts to make sure his strength is back to where it should be. Needless to say, Julian Tavarez’s starts are numbered. My realistic guess is he’ll make 3 more starts before Lester joins up permanently.

Tavarez will probably start Friday at Fenway against the Giants, then in Atlanta, and finally, in Seattle. I’d put the probable return of John Lester on July 4 weekend against Texas. If everything goes well, that would be Monday, July 2. This way he can skip the next west coast road trip and be primed and ready to go back in Fenway.
