The Jersey

I am still on the jersey topic. I can’t help it, I keep going back. To celebrate Memorial Day and my birthday, we are off to the park Monday to see my favorite former Sox player, and I am CONVINCED I will somehow convince him to sign my Lucky No. 7 jersey. After this blessed event occurs, it will be preserved and framed to go in our Red Sox Room (yes, we really have one). I am well aware that the chance of this happening is not very likely, but a girl can dream, right?
The natural progression of this thought is an exciting one. What will I wear to the park after my beloved jersey is retired? I have considered this quite a bit, actually. The jersey a person wears tells quite a bit about them: their baseball intelligence, their knowledge of the team, what they personally value as a fan. There are many contenders for me, but in the end, I think it’s going to have to be a Youkilis jersey. It’s the natural choice for a Dirt Dog lover.
In addition to be a hard worker, an on-base machine (.347 BA with a .429 OBP), a defensive asset (he hasn’t had an error since last July 4), and a team-oriented player, Youk has the right attitude. A Dirt Dog attitude. In an article for MLB.com published yesterday, Youk was quoted as saying, “You have to play day in and day out and play hard. Play for today. You can’t worry about the future. For me that helps out a lot. I get to play baseball for a living and I just have to keep playing day in and day out and just have fun with it.” Yup, I’ll take Number 20. In red, please.
Who knows? With the way things are going, I could wait until mid-July and get a Youkilis All Star Jersey.
