Quick Hits, Thoughts, and Ramblings

Alex Cora, Infielder Extraordinaire
Bravo to Alex Cora for a hot start! The Sox are now 13-1 in games he has started. As of this morning, in 26 games played and 58 at bats, his average is .362 with a .603 slugging percentage. And of course, he has committed no errors. I think Tito has done a great job of getting him playing time while maintaining Pedroia’s starting role (which I think is important to continue building his confidence). He has definitely gone above and beyond expectations.
Our Under-the-Radar Japanese Phenom
Hideki Okajima, you are the man! When Sheffield calls you the best lefty in baseball, people listen. When you have a 0.44 ERA, they really listen.
Those Finicky Writers and Fans
It was just over a month ago that I was writing about JD Drew and his nice start. I understand his production has slowed since then and he has 3 errors, but I don’t really understand the backlash. What’s that about, guys? I know his contract is large, as are expectations, but with every player there are peaks and valleys. I know that Red Sox fans tend to be unforgiving, but this seems really finicky to me.
Lester Pitching for Pawtucket
I am very excited about this. I think Tavarez has really risen to the occasion, but it will be a great day at Fenway when Lester returns.
Check Out That Record
The best in baseball…that feels really nice to write. I know: it’s a marathon, not a sprint, but it really is a good day when we are sitting on top of the league. It’s even better to see contributions spread around, good pitching and offense, and what seems like good team chemistry. That’s how you win the marathon, right?

Don’t listen to anyone who tells you this isn’t the best Sox team we’ve had in years. Even better than 2004 since we needed a trade to solidify that team. If the trade deadline were next week, what are you trading for this year? Bullpen help, I guess, but if DelCarmen and potentially Hansen pitch effectively this year, we won’t need that either.
I love the Oki-Doki pitch as much as Andruw Jones must hate it!

Clemens is still the man - always has been and is the best pitcher. EVER. Probably the richest now too.
