Sweep Revenge! Whats better than that?

The

It’s true, The Red Sox beat the Yankees three days in a row by a combined 4 runs. Whats better than that? Probably that it came after we were swept in 5 games last year. And whats better than that? The fact that all were close games and the Sox were 3/3 in save chances. And whats better than that? Both ARod and Jeter got hit by pitches from Daisuke, and looked silly striking out at least once.

The Yankees used a total of 18 different players yesterday, including their emergency catcher and Friday night’s starter. They seemed desperate to simply escape with a win and a shred of dignity. But that was denied as Alex Rodriguez feebly grounded to third to end the game, series, and complete the sweep.

Tito made me a little nervous a few times, as always. Leaving Daisuke in for ARod in the 8th was one thing, but leaving Okajima out there after Giambi was a mistake. Donnelly hadn’t worked all series, and I felt the last 2 outs after Giambi should have been his to get.

But we protected the lead and Papelbon saved the day, as expected. Can you imagine if Julian Tavarez was coming in to close out the game? Or Joel Pinero? I think this weekend, and the last 5 days as a whole, have proven that the decision to move him there was the right one.

And of course, let’s not forget the greatest inning ever - 4 home runs off the Yankees. I’m not sure, I don’t have the measurements in front of me, but just from seeing them all hit, I’d say JD Drew’s was probably the shortest HR at around 425 or so. Manny’s must have been close to 500 feet out of the park, pretty much over the flag pole in center. Tek and Lowell both put it in the top row of the Monster seats - easily 400-420+. It had to be the best feeling in the world seeing them go.

Can’t wait to beat up on the slumping Toronto starting tonight!

Stumble it!

Let’s not discount the lack of any and all curtain calls by the Red Sox during the home run inning. They knew the game was still early and there was no need. Even Lowell’s game winning home run was acknowledged simply him grabbing his hat and glove and playing third. No showing off (Jeter/ARod) and no stupid second inning curtain calls (Bernie).
