Lester’s Comeback

John Lester. Cancer Survivor.
Need we say more? Probably don’t need to say more - but I am going to anyway.

Lester beat cancer like the ‘04 Red Sox beat the Yankees. Everyone counted him out. He was going for treatments and there was talk of “we should have traded him while we still could” etc. etc. But alas, here he is. Even if he was the only one who believed he could start Spring Training on time, he was not deterred. Today, he is in Fort Meyers, several days before most of the team, to begin his workouts early. He was quoted as saying his primary concern is that the team is going to go easy on him.

His being back isn’t part of the plan at all for the organization. He would currently be the 6th starter (though the only lefty). He probably won’t start the season on time, if for no other reason than that. But rest assured, we’ll see him soon enough. He may even push Tim Wakefield into middle relief by early May if he regains the form we saw last year before his diagnoses.

I, personally, am very happy to see him back. Who isn’t? He’s a key part of the Sox strategy of getting younger, and lets be honest, it would be nice to have the majority of our starters under 30.

Stumble it!

does anyone know how I can get an email to Lester? My son was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma the same time Lester was. He wants to talk to Lester and find out what he’s doing to get back into shape and what treatment if any he is still doing.
