Trot Nixon signs with…
… the Cleveland Indians! He’s heading to Manny Ramirez’s old stopping ground in the tiny right field at Jacobs Field. This is actually a very good place for Trot - he’ll most likely platoon with Casey Blake in right and maybe even get some time in left or at DH.
The real kicker is that they are paying him $3 million for a one-year contract. Seems like a bit much for a guy who can’t stay healthy or hit home runs anymore, but then again, the way the free agent market is in this off season, it’ll be a steal if he plays in 120 games and puts up .280-18-80. And he still has one of the best arms in baseball.
Personally, I am happy for the guy. He was the ‘future’ of the Red Sox for so long, and did have a career year in ‘04 to help propel us to the sacred ground of World Series Champions. Thanks for everything you did Trot - but we’re paying Wily Mo less to hit more home runs so don’t let the door hit you on the plane to Cleveland.
