J.D. Drew - What’s the Deal?
The ‘official’ word on J.D. Drew seems to be about as vague as his contract supposedly is. To quote Nick Cafardo on his Red Sox Extra Bases Blog, the Red Sox officials and agent Scott Boras have been discussing the J.D. Drew contractual snag the past two days and planned on continuing their chat today. At least one person involved in the talks thought a resolution could come shortly.
And that means??? Shortly is hardly a word I would use to describe signing J.D. Screwed. I think that what they are not saying is that it turns out this guy isn’t nearly as healthy as we thought he was (shoulder issue) and that he probably isn’t worth $70m after all.
But hey, it isn’t my money, and he is certainly a much better hitter than anyone who hit behind Manny last year. He makes the team better and that is what counts in the end (not counting money I’ll eventually have to spend on $80 bleacher tickets)
